Legal Service Plan

Union Benefits Trust offers you a legal service plan through Hyatt Legal Plans.
Within 90 days of hire or during a Trust-sponsored open enrollment, you may purchase legal coverage at single or family levels for a low fee each month. The premium will be deducted from your pay (the first pay of each month), making it more convenient for you. We added this plan through the direction of the Board and the research of our benefits analysts, and we’re glad to offer this voluntary benefit to our members and their dependents.

Take some time now to review the plan, to see if it is right for you.

Your coverage will begin on the first of the month after your first contribution from your pay.

When Coverage Ends

Participants must remain in the plan for one plan year (through June 30). You may request a change or drop your coverage during open enrollment for the following July 1; however, if you make no changes, your coverage will continue without interruption.

New members may enroll within 90 days of hire and also are required to remain in the plan for the remainder of the plan year (through June 30).

In all cases, coverage will end if your eligibility ends, the Trust ends the plan or deductions are not taken from your pay. In many circumstances, if you go on leaves you will be dropped from the legal plan; no continuation is available, and you cannot be reinstated until the next open enrollment.

Exclusions

  • Matters or disputes concerning the Union Benefits Trust or a Union served by the Trust; or

  • Matters concerning employment including State and statutory benefits.

To Obtain Benefits

Before obtaining service, you must contact Hyatt and obtain a Case Number, even if you’re not going to use a network Plan Attorney.

You can obtain a Case Number on Hyatt's website or by phone through Hyatt’s client service center at 800-821-6400. Hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday - Thursday and 8 a.m.- 6 p.m. Friday, Eastern Time. The Hyatt representative will verify your eligibility, give you a Case Number, provide you with the name and phone number of a nearby Plan Attorney and answer any questions. After receiving a Case Number, you may call the Plan Attorney for an appointment.

If you live in an area where there are no Plan Attorneys or prefer to use an out-of network attorney, call Hyatt before obtaining counsel. Once you have your Case Number, you may see the attorney of your choice, and will receive reimbursement according to Hyatt’s set fee schedule. To receive reimbursement, send a completed form and the attorney’s bill to
